Today, I am going to talk about drugstore lipstick… Does anyone else think the whole “drugstore” name just sounds… strange? It sounds like I buy my lipstick & other makeup from a little shifty store that sells drugs… When really it is just a term that means any non-high end, non-luxury brands of makeup. Drugstore makeup is just any makeup sold in higher volumes at places like grocery stores. I just wish we could call it something else besides “drugstore makeup.” Not a big deal! Just wondered if anyone else kind of cringes at that name…?
Anyway, I have tried many different drugstore lipsticks over the last year. I am not even going to try to list them all! Many of them have just gotten tossed into the trash after just a few uses. Seriously… One lipstick I tried was so oily. It rubbed off everywhere!! Around my mouth, it would start looking smudged when nothing had even touched my mouth yet. It was just THAT greasy! YUCK!
So, through much trial and error, I have come across TWO brands/types of matte drugstore lipsticks that I approve! I joined a very large beauty group (almost 40k members) on Facebook over 2 years ago. These two lipsticks also seem to be highly recommended by others! They are:
1. Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Lipstick
2. Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick
I am excited because each line of these lipsticks has come out with new colors recently. Amazon says there are now TWENTY colors available for the Maybelline lipstick and THIRTEEN colors available for the Wet n Wild lipstick. I went to the store today and snagged 2 new Wet n Wild colors and 1 new Maybelline color!
There is a little bit of a price difference between the two brands. The Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink lipstick is almost $8 and the Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit lipstick is almost $5. Both are still super affordable though! I love the prices because it means I don’t have to feel guilty about buying all of the colors!
The flat lay photos in this post are my original photos (No stock photos this time! I’m trying not to resort to stock photos if possible!). So that means I currently have 11 lipsticks of these two brands. I’m hoping to collect all of them soon! I may update this post with swatches when I do get more colors.
There is one con to the Maybelline lipstick… The smell is a little off-putting in my opinion. After it dries, the smell seems to dissipate. And I find the Maybelline is less drying and cracks less on my lips than the Wet n Wild. The Maybelline just lasts longer on my lips and I prefer it overall so I put up with the smell. I saw others in the beauty Facebook group saying that they preferred the Wet n Wild though… So I would suggest trying them both out and see which YOU prefer! They are so inexpensive too so you don’t have to feel guilty if you don’t love one of them.
If you try one of these lipsticks, let me know what you think! Feel free to tag me in one of your pics, email me with your thoughts, or comment below! I want to hear from you 🙂
