Are you tight on cash but still want to treat yourself? This time of year right after the holidays can be a particularly stressful time financially sometimes. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be able to take care of yourself as well. It shouldn’t mean that you can’t treat yourself a little. It’s important to feel like you are making time for yourself and taking care of yourself at all times. I hope these free self-care ideas can help you! I know that can be challenging when money is tight though.
I’ve created this list of some free self-care activities; some free things that will still make you feel like you’re “treating yourself”! I think indulging occasionally on things will help us stay under control at other times. Even the word indulging sounds like it must be expensive, right? I mean it’s hard to even walk out of the house without spending some sort of money!
Life can be stressful though and it is important sometimes to feel like you are putting yourself first and making yourself a priority. You may spend so much of your time helping others, helping your family members, or trying to put all of your energy into your job. Sometimes you need to make yourself happy. If you don’t, you could be facing an overwhelming amount of stress which could lead to burn out. That could lead to actual health problems that will end up costing you in medical bills and things down the road.
So it really is worth it to spend a little bit of money on yourself sometimes if that helps offset your stress or physical or mental pain. However, spending money to indulge yourself may not always be an option, unfortunately. Even if it makes financial sense in the long run, that isn’t going to make more/extra money appear for you to spend!
In that case, this list of 5 free self-care activities may help you!
Get outside and go for a walk! This is probably my favorite out of these free self-care ideas. Sometimes we spend so much time sitting at a desk or sitting on our phones scrolling through social media. Getting outside can help break up the day. Fresh air is always good for you physically. But it can be really great for you mentally as well.
Love to pamper (skincare, beauty, etc) yourself?
Just trying out a new face mask can feel refreshing. It can feel like you’re breathing life back into your skin. Whether it’s been feeling too oily or if you’ve been dealing with acne or even if your skin has been so dry, there’s a face mask for you! I know my skin has been feeling so dry from the dry winter air. A moisturizing face mask feels so good. It really feels like I’m taking the extra time to take care of myself when I do a face mask even if it only takes 5 minutes to slap on my face! Face masks obviously would cost money to run to Target and buy. So if you don’t already have some lying around, there are plenty of recipes online for face masks that you can whip up with ingredients you have lying around. Here’s an article with some good face mask recipes: https://www.self.com/gallery/7-easy-diy-face-masks. One of the masks is even just coconut oil and brown sugar!
Call a friend on the phone or (better yet!) ask them to stop by just to chat. Even if you only have a half hour or hour to spare, seeing a friend and connecting can get you back on track. It can motivate you to go finish whatever you needed to get done that day.
You can start a free trial of Audible or a free trial of Kindle Unlimited on Amazon! Having those free trials will give you access to so many books that you’ve probably been wanting to read but maybe you haven’t been able to pull the trigger on the subscription fees yet. I bet you could get through a whole book before the trial was even over.
Love to bake?
Find a new recipe to bake! If you are trying to stick to a diet or if you have trouble with self-control, you can even pack the treat up to gift to a friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker. Then, you not only made yourself a treat to eat but you were able to share it with others and put a smile on their faces. Also, gifting can lift you up when you see how happy your gift made others! This can be a double pick-me-up then.
